Terms of service
Effective September 24, 2026
These terms cover your use of MGRS Cardinal and its paid plans. Please read section 3: the app is an independent tool, and its grids and bearings must not be your only source for navigation or safety decisions.
1. Who we are
MGRS Cardinal (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a map tool for reading and working with MGRS grid references, available at mgrscardinal.com. It is operated by Vincent Cardinal, based in Alberta, Canada. You can reach us at support@mgrscardinal.com.
2. Accepting these terms
By using the app you agree to these terms. If you create an account or subscribe, you also confirm that you are at least 18, or that you have permission from a parent or guardian. If you use the app on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you are allowed to accept these terms for it.
3. Not an official product, and not a substitute for proper navigation
MGRS Cardinal is an independent app. It is not made, endorsed or approved by the Government of Canada, the Department of National Defence, the Canadian Armed Forces, NATO or any other military or government body.
Grids, bearings, distances, areas and positions are calculated estimates. They depend on map imagery, your device and its location services, and mathematical approximations. Bearings are grid or true north, and magnetic declination is not applied. Map imagery can be out of date, misaligned or wrong.
Do not rely on the app alone where safety, lives, property or operations are at stake. That includes navigation, emergencies, search and rescue, targeting, fire control and medical evacuation. Always check against official maps, approved equipment and procedures, and qualified people.
Do not enter classified, protected or operationally sensitive information. The app is not approved or accredited for that kind of information.
4. Accounts
- The free map works without an account. Some features need you to sign in with email and password or with Google.
- Keep your sign-in details secure. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- Give accurate information, and tell us at support@mgrscardinal.com if you think someone else has used your account.
5. Plans and features
The app has a free version and paid plans (currently “Pro” and “Pro Plus”). The features of each plan are described in the app. We may improve, change or remove features over time. If we remove a major paid feature, we will tell subscribers and, where fair, offer a prorated refund or credit.
6. Subscriptions, billing and renewal
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- Subscriptions renew automatically each month at the price shown when you subscribed, until you cancel.
- Prices are shown in the app and at checkout. Applicable taxes may be added at checkout.
- Price changes are announced at least 30 days in advance and apply from your next billing period after the notice. You can cancel before then.
- Changing plans: if you move from Pro to Pro Plus, you are charged the prorated difference right away. If you move down, the change applies right away, and the unused difference is credited to your next invoice.
- Failed payments: if a payment fails and isn't fixed, your paid features stop, and your account moves to the free version.

7. Teams (Pro Plus)
- A Pro Plus subscriber can create a team and invite up to 10 people (including themselves) using an invite code.
- Team members’ access to the team map, chat and Pro Plus features depends on the team owner’s subscription staying active. If it ends, the team becomes view-only.
- The team owner controls membership and can remove members, change the invite code and delete the team. Deleting a team permanently deletes its shared map and chat.
- Anything you add to a team map or chat is visible to every member of that team. Your display name, email, and online or last-seen status are also visible to members.
- Anyone with an invite code can join the team while seats are available. Share codes only with people you trust, and change the code if it is shared by mistake.
8. Your content
You own what you create or upload: pins, shapes, lines, text, imported spreadsheets, KML files and chat messages (“your content”). You give us permission to store, process, display and back it up, only to run the app for you and your team. You are responsible for having the right to upload your content, and for keeping your own copies. Use Save as KML to export your map.
9. Acceptable use
Do not use the app to:
- break any law, or help anyone else break one;
- harass, threaten, stalk or harm anyone, including by tracking a person without their consent;
- upload malware or content you don’t have the right to share;
- get around paid features, security rules or usage limits, or access other people’s accounts or teams;
- scrape the app or its map tiles in bulk, overload it, or resell it without our written permission.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules. If a paid account is closed for serious or repeated misuse, no refund is owed.
10. Maps and third-party services
Map imagery and data come from third parties (such as Esri, OpenStreetMap contributors, OpenTopoMap, EOX and the USGS) under their own terms. Their credits are shown on the map. We don’t control their accuracy or availability, and a provider may change or withdraw a map at any time. The app also relies on Firebase (Google), Stripe and Cloudflare.
11. Availability
We work to keep the app running, but we can’t promise it will always be available, error-free or uninterrupted. It needs an internet connection to load maps and sync. We may pause it for maintenance.
12. No warranty
As far as the law allows, the app is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind. That includes warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Nothing in these terms removes rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived.
13. Limitation of liability
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses. That includes lost data, lost profits and losses from relying on grids, bearings or map imagery. Our total liability for any claim about the app is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. If you paid nothing, it is limited to $50 CAD. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
14. Ending your use
You can stop using the app at any time, cancel your subscription in the app under Account → Manage subscription, and ask us to delete your account at support@mgrscardinal.com. We may end or suspend access if you break these terms, or if we stop offering the app. If we stop offering the app, we will give subscribers reasonable notice and a prorated refund for any unused paid period.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. For important changes, we will give reasonable notice in the app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using the app after that, you accept the new terms.
16. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes will be handled by the courts of Alberta, unless your local consumer law gives you the right to go to court where you live.
